Born and raised in Alberta, Patrick received a law degree from the University of B.C. in 1981. After a brief career as a lawyer he worked in the publishing industry in sales and marketing. In 1992, he began attending New Life Community Church in Burnaby, B.C., where he received some mentoring from Murray and Carol Moerman. He was encouraged to attend Regent College, where he obtained a Diploma in Christian Studies in 1995. It was here where he met Elizabeth, whom he married in 1996. Elizabeth began working for Outreach Canada and Patrick had the opportunity to observe that it was an organization where people were very busy but needed more time to think. He suggested to Gerry Kraft one day that there should be a Department of Meditation and Contemplation. Gerry agreed to this, not having a clue what Patrick was talking about. So it began that Patrick began writing monthly devotional essays for Outreach Canada; all designed to be thought-provoking, and hoping to encourage learning about the great theological heritage of the Christian faith. Doug Harris acts as the unofficial advisor to this Department.

Patrick also works as a private security officer, hoping to love and serve his neighbour in that way. He does not do fund-raising on a personal basis but encourages people to support other members of OC.
