Matching Gifts Through Your Employer
Did you know that there are hundreds of Canadian companies that offer matching gifts in support of the charities their employees support? Companies as diverse and large as Bell Canada, IBM Canada, Telus and Xerox offer such programs. Companies may restrict some kinds of ‘religious’ activities and set maximum amounts that will be matched, but it is certainly worth looking into. If your employer has a policy of matching gifts, it’s usually as simple as filling out a short form. All you need to know is the amount you have given to that charity in the past year, the charity's name and its charitable number (PI’s is listed on most of our literature, including this newsletter). Consult with your human resources contact or corporate giving department to see whether your company has a matching gift program. They may be able to make your gift go farther by “doubling it up!”
