From OC’s beginning in 1984 the mission has been committed to see new churches planted across Canada. Under OC’s visionary leadership several national initiatives were developed. One of these initiatives was the national church planting movement, which became Church Planting Canada in 1996 under Murray Moerman’s leadership. Outreach Canada has resourced financially and provided ministry staffing to lead and facilitate this national
church planting movement. Other OC team members, Glenn Gibson, Lorne Hunter, James Watson, Alison Johnson, Dianne Boyle, Elizabeth McKitrick, Phil Cox, and in the earlier years, Gerry Kraft, Murray Jarman, and Arnell Motz have served the movement during the various seasons of its history. Over the past 12 years Outreach Canada has provided CPC with administrative support, a legal framework, ministry and financial accountability, communication activities, book publications, and worked with the CPC Design Team and its many volunteers to provide quality ministry events--notably the biennial Church Planting Congress, and regional Church Planter Bootcamps.
Outreach Canada’s “whole nation” focus is foundational to a holistic strategy for new churches initiatives. OC provides resources, such as Community Profiles, mapping, survey tools, and research to local church communities, denominations, and mission agencies to enhance the planting of new churches and identify locations for new church plants. Other OC resources such as the training DVD, Starting Outward-Focused Churches, and ChurchMap Canada are some of the tools that OC offers denominations and planter teams.
