Sider, Ronald and Ben Lowe. The Future of Our Faith. Grand Rapids: Baker Publishing, 2016.
Reviewed by Craig Kraft
Sider and Lowe represent two ends of a generational spectrum in the church and their conversational exchange on current challenges facing the church is insightful. The format is simple; each author introduces a set of critical issues facing the church. He presents his views and concerns and is then followed by a response from the other author. Views and concerns are presented from the older and younger generations in the church, along with helpful discussion questions at the end of each chapter.
Topics covered include Evangelism, Truth, Marriage, Homosexuality, Living Like Jesus, Political Witness, Reconciling Divisions, and Responsibility for God’s Creation. The first four issues are raised by the elder and responses come from the younger. The last four topics are raised by the younger author and the elder responds.
I found the dialog to be helpful, and the format was inviting. This book is a helpful tool to understand some of the critical concerns the church faces today with special attention to the different ways these concerns are understood and addressed by different generations.
