One of the four key elements in the strategy of Outreach Canada is research. Based on research, Outreach Canada is better able to motivate the church to respond in obedience to God's call in making reproductive disciples; train church leadership to effectively make disciples; and mobilize the church by facilitating opportunities for ministry.
The central focus of the research department is to examine the state of today's church and the world we are living in.
Terminology
Harvest Force:
The term 'Harvest Force' is used to describe the Church herself. Harvest Force information reveals facts about the Church's nature, size, growth rate, programs, and strengths. Analysis of these facts suggests how best to work in equipping the church to make disciples.
Harvest Field:
The term 'Harvest Field' is used to describe the context in which the Church finds herself. Harvest Field information reveals facts about the cultural, political, economic, social, and religious circumstances. Our awareness of these facts helps choose how best to confront people with the gospel.
History
Since Outreach Canada began formal ministry research has played an important role. In early 1990 it became evident that Outreach Canada needed a full-time person to carry on the research begun in the late 1980's. After filling a temporary position to help with a special research project, the first full-time staff member dedicated to leading the research department was hired. Eighteen years later Outreach Canada's research department has a reputation of being the best source for information on the Canadian Church.
